Children's Speech and Language Therapy EHCP Team

This service does not accept referrals.

West Northamptonshire Council will review the needs highlighted in a child's education, health and care plan and where suitable to do so, will directly refer the child to the speech and language therapy EHCP team.

In the initial launch stages, the service is starting with a small number of schools where a high number of students have speech and language needs identified in section F of their EHCPs.  Parents, carers and guardians of children who will receive the service will be contacted directly.

With all new services, we want to ensure it is rolled out as smoothly as possible and to do this, we need to allow time for the teams to assess and review. Therefore, we have made the careful decision to look at support based on school settings that have a high number of children with speech and language needs identified in section F of their EHCPs. This allows us to concentrate our support on selected areas, which in turn means we can work with more students whilst ensuring a well-rounded approach to the support we provide.

We aim to roll this out further throughout the academic year as the service develops.

For all children (in a selected school or not), the provision already in place to meet their needs as outlined in Section F of their plan will continue to be delivered by the current independent provider. If at your child's Annual Review it is considered that your child requires continued support, it may be that the provider changes to the new NHFT SALT EHC service. This will depend on the capacity of the new service at the point of review. 

If your child is waiting for speech and language therapy support to be allocated, you can contact your caseworker if your child has an EHCP.

This new service provides an opportunity to support more children with special educational needs and/or disabilities with their speech and language needs. The support will be provided by a local team of professionals who are involved with their EHC plans, ensuring continuity and consistency in their approach, as well as providing support within their education setting.

The team will work with children identified, as well as the school to design a tailored therapy plan based on specifications in Part F of the child's EHCP which may include; observations, assessments, direct and group therapy.  As well as contribute to Annual Reviews where indicated and provide workshop training and coaching sessions for school staff.

Yes. The Core Speech & Language Therapy Service provide episodes of care to support the child and family in their home environment, regardless of whether they have an EHC plan or not.
