Community PaediatricsCommunity Paediatricians are child health doctors trained in both hospital and community settings. They have experience of working with families and as part of a team contribute to pathways of care of children with a range of conditions and needs and co-ordinate services for those with neuro-disability, chronic illnesses and other special needs to include learning disabilities, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism, child protection, adoption and fostering, looked after children and hearing difficulties.
The doctors work with parents and other professionals to make a comprehensive assessment of the child’s needs. This may include asking parents and school staff to complete questionnaires in order to gather information in a structured way. Assessments are carried out generally in clinic settings but from time to time children are seen in school or if necessary in their own home.
