The NHFT Pharmacy service exists to proactively support staff, service users and carers with safe and effective medicines management. We also help with optimising the use of medicines by providing a high quality and friendly service.
We do this by providing:
- Accurate and independent information and education about medicines to other healthcare professionals, service users and carers
- Clinical and dispensing activities to facilitate the management of medicines by service users in inpatient and community teams
- Support to ensure that medicines management resources are used cost effectively within NHFT.

Where are courses held?
A formulary is a preferred list of medicines for use within the organisation. If the patient meets the clinical criteria set out in the guidance, all medicines recommended by a NICE technology appraisal are available at the Trust as a treatment option for the disease or condition covered. Treatments can proceed if the clinician concludes that the drug recommended by the NICE technology is the most appropriate one to use. This always follows a discussion of all available treatments, and only if the patient agrees.
There is a specific list of preferred choices for medicines used by the Trust’s mental health and HIV teams. See below:
For all other medicines prescribers use the formularies of Kettering General Hospital, Northampton General Hospital and the Primary care drugs formulary (NHS Nene Clinical Commissioning Group and NHS Corby Clinical Commissioning Group).
