NHFT Medicines Formulary
A formulary is a preferred list of medicines for use within the organisation.
This formulary is agreed by the Trust's Medicines Management committee following consultation with clinicians within the Trust.
If the patient meets the clinical criteria set out in the guidance, all medicines recommended by a National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) technology appraisal are available at the Trust as a treatment option for the disease or condition covered. Treatments can proceed if the clinician concludes that the drug recommended by the NICE technology is the most appropriate one to use. This always follows a discussion of all available treatments, and only if the patient agrees.
National Institute for Clinical Excellence
In addition to many other services, NICE makes recommendations to the NHS on:
- New and existing medicines, treatments and procedures
- Treating and caring for people with specific diseases and conditions.
Choice and Medication
NHFT is a subscriber to the Choice and Medication information services. The Choice and Medication website offers people information about medications used in the mental health setting to help people make informed decisions about medication. Use the site yourself, together with your family or someone you care for, or with your doctor, nurse or pharmacist.
