Adult Services - Admiral Nursing ServiceWe are the Admiral Nurse Service.
Our Nurses, Known as Admiral Nurses, provide free life changing support and advice to anyone affected by Dementia. When things get challenging or difficult for people with dementia and their families, Admiral Nurses work alongside them, giving the compassionate one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions that can be difficult to find elsewhere.
Admiral Nurses focus on the family as a whole, including making sure carers have the support and skills they need, and equip carers with stress management techniques and coping strategies. We are here to make sure no one faces Dementia alone.
How Admiral Nurses can help:
- If communication gets hard, we're on hand with skills and techniques to help you stay connected to the person you love
- If someone with dementia is showing signs of fear or distress, we'll work with you to find the best ways of preventing or managing this
- If you want some guidance on the financial benefits that you may be able to claim, we can talk this through with you and provide details of services and organisations that can support you
- If your family is struggling to cope, we'll be there to help you get your loved one the best possible additional care and support
- If you have questions you can't get answered we'll take the time to really understand the problem, and give you the expert support you need to tackle

How do I register for this service?
The admiral nurse service accepts referrals via telephone and email from professionals and self-referrals. When leaving a voicemail referral please note there may be a delay in responding to this.
Meet the team
As experts in dementia, Admiral Nurses support families with the many complex challenges of the condition, providing free, specialist advice, support and understanding, whenever it is needed.
The team covers the whole of Northamptonshire and consists of 1 Clinical Lead Admiral Nurse and 2 Admiral Nurses.

The Dementia Action Alliance brings together organisations across England committed to transforming the lives of people with dementia and their carers.
The Young Onset Dementia Network Online community for young onset dementia - Young Dementia Network. The online community for everyone living with, working with or interested in young onset Dementia. The Young Dementia Network is an online influencing community working collaboratively to improve lives. Launched in 2016 and driven by first-hand expertise and experience, the Network is now hosted by Dementia UK.
Rare Dementia Support. Rare Dementia Support Rare Dementia Support offers specialist social, emotional and practical support services for individuals living with, or affected by, a rare dementia diagnosis. Our vision is for all individuals with, at risk of or supporting someone with one of these forms of dementia to have access to information, tailored support and guidance, and contact with others affected by similar conditions. RDS welcomes people from all areas of society affected by a rare dementia regardless of gender, age, marital or family status, race, ethnicity or sexual orientation.
Northamptonshire Libraries have created a Memory Box toolkit. A memory box is a collection of images, and objects which represent a person's interests and history. Creating a memory box for someone diagnosed with dementia can have a range of benefits for both the person with dementia and their relatives.
Northamptonshire Libraries also have a reading well for dementia collections which contain sharing books. These books have images in to provoke memories and help someone caring for another with dementia to have reminiscence conversations with them.
Care Choices have produced a practical guide to living with dementia.
Northamptonshire Police have a scheme called the 'Herbert Protocol ' which can help if a person with dementia goes missing. It gathers all key information about the person that can be shared with national and local agencies.

Join us for a free drop-in session with a specialist Admiral Nurse, in partnership with Dementia UK. These sessions are a safe space for families, friends, and carers to get expert advice, emotional support, and practical guidance.
