Adult Services - Diabetic Eye Screening ProgrammeThe Diabetic Eye Screening Programme provides annual screening to detect diabetic retinopathy for diabetic patients aged 12 and above.
We have 10 sites across Northamptonshire to ensure our service is accessible as possible. Our friendly community teams carry out retinal eye screening checks to detect diabetic retinopathy (damage to the retina of the eye).
You will be referred for treatment where appropriate. The service operates a fast-track referral system for patients with sight-threatening retinopathy for treatment.
In addition, the service will report any other eye conditions to the Hospital Eye Services at Kettering General Hospital and Northampton General Hospital.
Who is this service for? We see all diabetic patients registered with GPs, aged 12 and over, for screening every 12 to 24 months, depending on if your condition requires more monitoring. If you have gestational diabetes, which is often a temporary condition, you will not be invited for a diabetic eye screening.
This is a free NHS service.
