Everyone is welcome!
We're holding a friendly, informal drop in session for patients, carers and family members who want to learn more about how diabetic eye screening can help them to stay well.
- When: Friday 16 October 2026, 1pm to 4pm
- Where: Castle Unit, Isebrook Hospital Irthlingborough Road, Wellingborough, NN8 1LP
Come along - there's no need to book!
Who is the drop-in for?
This session is open to anyone who wants to understand more about diabetic eye screening - what it is, why it matters, and how it works.
You're welcome to bring someone with you for support. Our team is friendly, approachable and happy to answer any questions.
Carers and family members are also encouraged to attend if they'd like to better understand the process for the person they support.
What will happen at the drop-in?
We won't do your screening on the day, so no need to worry. Instead, you can:
- Find out more about why eye screening is important for your health
- Learn what happens at a screening and what to expect at your appointment
- Find out how eye photographs are taken and what we look for
- Discuss the eye drops we use - why they're needed and how they may temporary effect your vison
- Ask questions about any part of the screening process
- Talk through any reasons why you might be worried about having eye screening and explore what support is available. We will always do what we can to tailor appointments around you
- Clear up common misunderstandings about diabetic eye screening, for example:
"My eyesight is fine so that means I don't need a screening."
Regular screening is still important - early retinal changes often have no symptoms.
"I attend the opticians regularly, so I don't need an eye screening."
Optician eye tests and diabetic eye screening are two different things. If you have diabetes, it's vital you have regular eye screenings to check for diabetic retinopathy.
Do I need to bring anything?
You don't need to bring anything with you. If you'd like to book an appointment on the day, please bring your NHS number if you can.
