Health Based Place of Safety

We have two sites, one in the north of the county (St Mary’s Hospital) and one in the south (Berrywood Hospital). These sites are for members of the public detained by the Northamptonshire Policy under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act who require a mental health assessment.

We have two health based places of safety. One in the north of the county at St Mary’s Hospital in Kettering and one in the south Berrywood Hospital in Northampton.

These are for members of the public detained by the Northamptonshire Police under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act who need a mental health assessment.

The assessment will decide whether the person should be sent home with ongoing support or admitted to hospital as an informal or detained patient.

Who is this service for? Adults detained by the Northamptonshire Police under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act.

How do I register for this service?

Referral is only accepted via the Northamptonshire Police.
