TypeAdult Inpatients Acute
Inpatient care allows us to closely monitor our patients and ensure that they are receiving everything they need for their mental and physical wellbeing.
Avocet Ward is a 16 bedded all male Admission and Recovery Ward.
Avocet ward staff complete a 72 hour assessment of the service user. During this time staff will attempt to engage the service user in discussions about their care and assessments. Co-producing care with the service user is central to the service user’s recovery journey. The occupational therapy service will actively engage with all service users in a group format and an individual format as required due to their individual recovery needs. A service user may be referred for short term inpatient psychology or for a psychological assessment whilst on Avocet Ward. The ward also has links with the short term team and may complete a referral for the patient if they have issues such as accommodation or benefit issues. The focus of Avocet Ward is to continue working in a co-produced way so that the service user is actively involved in their care and care planning towards discharge. Throughout this journey the service user will regularly have their mental state and level of risk assessed.
Following the 72 hour assessment a decision will be made about how to best support the service user on their recovery journey. This could be by discharging the service user back to the care of their GP, being discharged with Urgent Care Assessment Team (UCAT) support or discharged with Planned Care and Recovery Team (PCART) and UCAT support or transfer to Kingfisher Ward.

Proud to be smokefree
We know that quitting smoking reduces your chances of heart disease and lung cancer as well as improves your sense of taste, makes your skin look younger and reduces stress. That is why we are proud to be smokefree.
Remember smoking is not allowed anywhere, on any NHFT sites.
If you are an inpatient please speak to your ward matron about options for nicotine replacement. All other users (whether service user, visitors or staff) must go offsite if they wish to smoke.
