Ten years of text support for young people’s mental health
This year marks a special milestone for our School Nursing Service: ten years of providing confidential text support for young people's mental health and wellbeing.
Over the past decade, hundreds of young people and families across Northamptonshire have reached out for advice, reassurance, and a listening ear - simply by sending a text. In the last two years alone, the School Nursing Service has responded to nearly 3,000 messages, supporting 310 young people and families with everything from emotional wellbeing to physical health concerns.
Behind this service is a dedicated team of just eight school nurses, who manage text support alongside their regular caseloads and day-to-day responsibilities. Their commitment ensures that young people have a safe, accessible way to ask questions and seek help - especially if they find it difficult to talk face-to-face.
"Text support has allowed us to reach young people who might never have accessed support otherwise. It's discreet, accessible, and makes a real difference every day. We're proud of the trust young people place in us and the way this service helps us respond quickly and compassionately to their needs."
- Rosie McCallum, Public Health Matron
As we celebrate this ten-year milestone, we want to thank our School Nursing Service and encourage more young people to use text support if they need someone to talk to.
