From today, 1 October 2025, Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has begun running the healthcare services at HMP Ranby in Retford, Nottinghamshire.

Earlier in the year, NHS England asked Northamptonshire Healthcare (NHFT) to provide health services at 7 secured sites (mainly prisons) across Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire. HMP Ranby becomes the second of these secured sites to transfer to NHFT joining HMP Lowdham Grange.

NHFT has a track record of providing safe, quality care to residents of prison and other secured locations across a number of years. We look forward to providing leadership and expertise in this specialised area at HMP Ranby and the other new sites, with the ultimate aim to improve services for the residents and teams working at these sites.

In welcoming HMP Ranby to Northamptonshire Healthcare, we also welcome a team of new colleagues to the Trust. We will be working together with them, to understand how we can make a difference and develop quality, safe care.

The remaining 5 sites will transfer by the 31 March 2026, they are:

HMP Nottingham, HMP Lincoln, North Sea Camp, Morton Hall and Swinderby Short-Term Holding Facility.
