Trust launches new phase of anti-racism programme
An anti-racism programme, aiming to promote and embed greater inclusivity for healthcare staff and patients, has entered a new phase.
Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) and Leicestershire Partnership Trust (LPT) have formally launched the next phase of their joint ‘Together Against Racism’ programme.
On 23 January, a dedicated workshop (pictured) was held to share what has been achieved so far on the programme and to outline the next phase of work across NHFT and LPT. The workshop was attended by colleagues from across both Trusts, including NHFT Chief Executive Angela Hillery and Chair, Crishni Waring.
‘Together Against Racism’ is the Trusts’ anti-racism commitment which began in 2020 as joint priorities.
In recent years, the Trusts have taken several proactive steps towards achieving their goal of becoming anti-racist organisations and creating truly inclusive environments for staff, patients and service users. Steps so far have included several empowering masterclasses, reviews of a number of governance processes, development on education around racism, and Trust directors across both organisations committing to Anti Racism Pledges.
The next phase of Together Against Racism
At the workshop, it was confirmed that this work will now continue to be taken forward as a joint programme to enable discussions and initiatives to develop further and become embedded in each organisation.
Three major strands for the Together Against Racism programme have been agreed focusing on:
- Workforce
- Partnerships
- Patients and service users
Each strand has its own workplan and will be led by a dedicated project group, which will be responsible for agreeing the priority areas of focus and identifying the standards which would be expected in an inclusive organisation.
At the end of the workshop participants were asked to pledge how they could support one of the strands as the workplans progress.
