Open day showcases specialist support following sexual violence
As part of Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week, Serenity Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) welcomed NHFT execs and non-exec directors for an open day, offering the opportunity to learn more about the specialist support available to people affected by sexual violence.
Guests were invited on a guided tour of the Serenity site, where staff demonstrated how the carefully designed, trauma -informed environment helps individuals feel safe, respected, and supported from the moment they arrive.
Fay Wickett, Service Manager for Serenity said " We were pleased to welcome colleagues to Serenity and share the work our team does every day to support people affected by sexual violence. Creating a safe, calm and trauma-informed environment is at the heart of everything we do, and it meant a great deal to showcase that during Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week"
The visit also included a presentation delivered by Fay, and Jo Gibbs, Quality Manager, who outlined Serenity's services, their mission and their steps towards accreditation.
One of the most impactful parts of the session was hearing a service user's story . The individual, whose story was initially presented (see the below video) also chose to attend and spoke about her own experiences of accessing Serenity and the care she received.
Her reflections offered a powerful reminder of the importance of specialist services for those affected by sexual abuse and sexual violence.
Attendees praised colleagues and the supportive environment Serenity has created for those accessing its services.
"Marking Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week with this visit was a powerful reminder of the impact that trauma- informed , sensitive care can have" said Angela Hillery, Chief Executive. "Serenity is a safe and supportive space for those who need it, and it was a privilege to learn more about the exceptional work the team delivers every day"
Serenity SARC continues to play a vital role in providing confidential, high-quality support to anyone affected by sexual violence, and the open day helped raise awareness at a crucial time during Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week.
