Celebrating our winners: Nikki Allanson
In our latest series of updates we are celebrating our Quality Awards 2025 winners. Today, we shine a spotlight on the incredible Nikki Allanson. Nikki won the Special Recognition Award for her outstanding work as a Discharge Coordinator at Corby Community Hospital.
Corby Community Hospital provides vital services including community therapy services, specialist dental services and adult community beds. At the heart of these services Nikki has a crucial role in ensuring patients experience a safe and timely transition from hospital to home or another care setting when they are ready to leave.
Her responsibilities include:
- Coordinating with other healthcare workers and social care professionals to make the patient care journey more efficient and smoother
- Managing discharge planning process from admission through to completion
- Acting as a central point of contact for patients, families, and care providers
Going above and beyond
Nikki works tirelessly to ensure every patient feels supported and empowered during their recovery journey so that they can transition smoothly and safely back home and can access any additional care and services they may need.
Her efforts were recognised for a Quality Award as she always goes that extra mile to help patients, from ensuring there's food in the cupboard when a patient gets home, co-ordinating with external agencies for any additional support, to arranging follow up care. Nikki is an exceptional and extraordinarily compassionate colleague. Her strong advocacy and efforts have earned her glowing feedback from colleagues and patients.

"I love my job, as a discharge coordinator, my patients are always my priority. The team I work with, they are amazing and I feel very grateful for this award.
"As a trust we all work really hard and do our best for our patients. I am so proud to have worked for the NHS for 35 years and have enjoyed all my roles.
"I will always strive to do the best I can for our patients, my goal is to make sure they feel safe, they get back their independence and recover."
