NHFT Specialist and Secured Services continues to grow
In a newly created video, nursing staff join NHFT leaders to highlight the important role and approach NHFT’s Specialist and Secured Services takes in caring for patients in a secure setting.
Specialist and Secured Services provide a wide range of healthcare support in a number of prisons and secure facilities across the country. The positive reputation and reach of the service continues to grow, with further opportunities on the horizon to expand and develop this area of the Trust’s portfolio.
Following a successful tender process earlier this year, HMP Peterborough in Cambridgeshire became the latest secure facility to benefit from the excellent skills and expertise of NHFT’s healthcare staff. The Trust now provides care in nine secure facilities in England, which includes all three prisons in the Cambridgeshire area.
To help support the growing number of NHFT staff working in this region and to further develop an integrated model of care across the three sites, the service has established the Cambridgeshire Wellbeing Team, with a hub office based in the Peterborough area.
In this film, nurses Nancy and Maria from the Cambridgeshire Wellbeing Team demonstrate their passion and pride in working for NHFT and actively encourage others to work in this type of setting. They also talk about the delivery and quality of care they provide and the difference they are making to some of the most vulnerable in society.
Members of the team also spoke about compassion and using the three ‘P’ approach when caring for residents – person, patient, prisoner – in that order. Putting them at the centre and importantly having parity of esteem – ensuring they are receiving the same level of care as those living out in the community.
