Learning Disabilities Week: “Do You See Me?”

This week (16 - 22 June) is Learning Disability Week, with the theme "Do You See Me?" . This theme is a reminder to recognise and value people with learning disabilities as individuals with their own strengths, needs and experiences.

At NHFT, our Learning Disability Service comprises both community teams for people with learning disabilities (CTPLD's) and the Intensive Support Team (IST).

The CTPLD's support adults with a diagnosed learning disability to live well and access the care they need. The team includes nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and physiotherapists, all working together to make a difference, and provide specialist support to those with learning disabilities.

The team can help with:

  • Physical and mental health support
  • Communication needs and accessible information
  • Emotional wellbeing and behaviour support
  • Sensory and mobility needs
  • Skills development and meaningful activities
  • Support with relationships, safety, and daily living

Their aim is to provide personalised, compassionate care that helps people with learning disabilities live healthy, fulfilling lives.
