Change of provider for children’s community healthcare
On 1 July 2026, several children's community healthcare services will be transferred to Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT).
The following services will transfer from the current provider, Northampton General Hospital:
- Child development centre
- Children's community nursing (west only)
- Community paediatrics (west only)
- Children's physiotherapy (west only)
Why is this change happening?
NHFT currently runs many of these services in the north of the county. After reviewing community paediatric services, NHS Northamptonshire Integrated Care Board decided it was better for families to have one provider across the whole county. NHFT was chosen as the single provider. This change will make services more consistent and joined up for children's physical and mental health.
What does this change mean for children receiving care from these services?
You should not see any significant changes on 1 July 2026, as services will continue to run at the same locations, with the same teams you are familiar with (the only change will be if any individual staff members choose not to transfer to the new provider). Appointments will continue to run as planned unless there is an operational reason these need to change (in which case you will be contacted directly to rearrange). You do not need to contact the service or take any action.
What does this mean if my child is currently on a waiting list?
If your child is on a waiting list for one of these services, there will be no change to this. The waiting list will continue to operate as it is currently. You do not need to contact us or take any action - you will be contacted by the service when the next step in your referral is reached.
You can find resources which may support you while you wait through the NHFT iDiscover service: www.nhft.nhs.uk/idiscover
Will there be any changes in the future?
Our intention is to learn from best practice as we continue to improve and develop our services. If there are any changes planned in the future, these will be clearly communicated with you.
What should I do if I have questions or concerns?
Please contact the patient advice and liaison service (PALs) at either NHFT www.nhft.nhs.uk/pals or NGH: www.northamptongeneral.nhs.uk/patients-and-visitors/patientadviceandliaisonservice.aspx
We would like to say thank you to all the families for your ongoing collaboration and partnership as we move through this process and develop a positive future for these services together.
