New Finance Director appointed to NHFT

Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Wheeler to Finance Director of the Trust.  Richard joined NHFT on 9 May 2016 following the retirement of Bill McFarland after 22 years within the Trust as Finance Director.

Richard has 11 years NHS experience, starting in 2005 as Head of Finance at the Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland Strategic Health Authority, before moving on to Deputy Director of Finance at Oxford University Hospitals and more recently Director of Finance of East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS).   In his role within NHFT Richard will be responsible for the finance, estates, contracting, procurement and IM&T services of the Trust.

Angela Hillery, NHFT Chief Executive said: “We are delighted to welcome Richard to NHFT and look forward to working with him and using his expertise and NHS experience.  Richard’s skills and financial background is important to the Trust and the local economy.  Whilst we welcome Richard’s appointment to NHFT, it is important to say thank you to Bill McFarland for his 22 years’ service as Finance Director to the Trust, his experience and skills were invaluable to us and we wish him well for the future.”

Richard said: “I am looking forward to working as part of NHFT and building on the partnerships already in place with health and social care. The NHS is a going through a particularly challenging time and meeting the financial challenges for the local health economy is paramount for the Trust and the county.”

Richard was awarded HFMA (Healthcare Finance Managers Association) Deputy Finance Director of the Year in December 2012.  Richard lives in Stamford. He is married with a son and daughter. His interests are mountain biking and sailing.
