A new specialist dental service based at St Andrew’s Healthcare in Northampton has been launched to provide patients and service users with improved accessed to treatment, led by Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, a key provider of specialist dental services.
Previously, mental health service users at St Andrew’s Healthcare would need to travel off site to locations across the county to receive specialist dental treatment. NHFT and St Andrew’s Healthcare recognise that leaving the hospital environment presents challenges for many of the patient cohort, and is dedicated to improving patient access to care.
To ensure that all service users at St Andrew’s Healthcare receive the specialist care they need while minimising disruption where possible, a new on-site service has been implemented which aims to prevent the need for significant dental treatment and improve outcomes for those who require treatment by making treatment more accessible.
Deborah Manger, Assistant Medical Director and Clinical Lead of Dental Services at Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are dedicated to providing outstanding and compassionate care that meet the specific needs of our communities. By working with St Andrew’s Healthcare to introduce a new on-site service, we can ensure that service users receive access to direct care, minimising the need for travel and disruption.
“We look forward to working closely with St Andrew’s to ensure that we develop the specialist dental service in line with patient needs.”
David Williams, Director of Strategy and Business Development for Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust explained: “This new service demonstrates the solid partnership we are building with St Andrew’s Healthcare and both organisations’ commitment to closing health inequalities for people with mental health illness.”
James Severs, Director of Physical Healthcare at St Andrew's Healthcare, commented:
“We are delighted to have NHFT as the new providers of specialist dental care to our patients at the Northampton site of St Andrew’s Healthcare. This new service brings a host of benefits including five day a week support, a team who are expert in providing special care dentistry and the ability to work proactively with our staff and patients to promote good oral hygiene. It is important for us to tailor a service to meet the complex needs of our patient group, and our relationship with NHFT means we can offer an outstanding dental service.”
NHFT colleagues working within the service will work with staff and service users at St Andrew’s to ensure that they receive specialist care to meet their individual needs.
