Celebrating Rumbi: NHFT’s Rising Star Award Winner
Two years ago, Rumbi Chipandambira joined NHFT as a student nurse. Today, she's a Community Nurse with the Brackley team - and winner of the Rising Star Award at the NHFT Quality Awards. Her journey is one of passion, positivity, and a commitment to making a difference.
A surprising win
When Rumbi found out she had won, her first reaction was shock.
"I wasn't expecting it, honestly, she says with a smile. But I was really happy"
For Rumbi, the recognition means more than just an award.
"It means the work I'm doing is being recognised, and that pushes me to do even more. When I'm out there caring for patients, I know someone sees what I'm doing - and that's really good"
As a Community Nurse with the Brackley team, Rumbi's role is varied and vital.
"We visit patients who are housebound, help with medication, and support those on palliative care. There's a lot involved - it's not just medication; it's everything that helps people live with dignity"
Her journey into nursing was inspired by her early experiences in a care home and her family.
"My grandparents looked after me when I was growing up. When they became unwell, I wanted to learn more so I could help them. That's what motivated me to become a nurse"
Rumbi's colleagues describe her as someone who brings energy and positivity to the team - something she takes seriously.
"I always try to find the good in any negative situation and stay positive. It's not easy to do what we do, but positivity makes things easier. And kindness matters, you never know what people are going through."
Going above and beyond is second nature to Rumbi.
"I love a challenge. If I don't know something, I'll ask and learn. I'm always willing to try, and I welcome feedback because that's how we grow"
Her advice to anyone starting out in nursing?
"Go for it. Don't let fear stop you. Take one step at a time and stay focused - you'll get there"
Away from work, Rumbi recharges by taking walks and enjoying her time off.
"You need to refill your own cup before you can pour into someone else's, she says wisely"
Two years into her NHFT journey, Rumbi is proud of her growth and grateful for her supportive team.
"We're the A-Team," she laughs. "I appreciate them so much"
