Celebrating our sustainability journey
We're proud to publish our latest Group Sustainability Annual Report for 2025/26-2026/27, showcasing how Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT) and Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) are working together to deliver to our green ambitions whilst also providing safe, high-quality care.
By publishing our Group Sustainability Annual Report, we are celebrating how we have made a difference, together, so far. Our key headlines include:
- Rollout of solar panels, heat pumps and energy-efficient lighting, alongside tree planting and biodiversity projects through the NHS Forest
- A digital-first approach which is supporting virtual wards and hybrid working; reducing paper use and unnecessary journeys
- An ongoing focus on reducing single-use items and waste, for example, NHFT's sexual health service has ended reliance on disposable, single-use plastic speculums
- National recognition for our catering teams who are sourcing and creating high-quality, sustainable meals for patients, staff and our communities
- Embedding sustainability into supply chains and increasing use of local suppliers
Together, these initiatives are helping us reduce our environmental impact while providing high quality, safe patient care.
The power of partnership
Sustainability is central to how we plan and deliver care across our Group. By working together, LPT and NHFT are able to share learning, scale innovation and deliver change more quickly. Our strengthened governance, including a Board-level Net Zero Lead and Group Sustainability Programme, ensures sustainability is embedded at every level.
Paul Sheldon, Chief Finance Officer and Executive Sustainability Lead, said:
Climate change is one of the greatest threats to public health, and as NHS organisations we have a responsibility to lead by example. Sustainability is not separate from excellent healthcare, it is fundamental to it.
This report is a celebration of progress, but it's also a call to action to colleagues and teams across both Trusts. We have Group and organisation-wide plans and ambitions, but even smaller changes and initiatives at local levels can make a real difference.
