Type
Adult Inpatients AcuteInpatient care allows us to closely monitor our patients and ensure that they have everything they need for their mental and physical wellbeing.
Kingfisher Ward is a mixed-gender treatment and recovery ward with 10 beds. It may take transfers from Sandpiper, Avocet and Shearwater wards.
On Kingfisher Ward, service users are continuing their recovery journey. The occupational therapy service will actively work with all service users in group sessions and/or individually, depending on their individual recovery needs.
A service user may be referred for short term inpatient psychology or for a psychological assessment while they are on Kingfisher Ward. The ward also has links with the short-term team. They may complete a referral for the service user if they have issues to deal with like accommodation or benefit issues.
The focus of Kingfisher Ward is to continue working with the service user so that they are actively involved in their co-producing their own care and their planning towards discharge. Throughout this journey the service user will regularly have their mental state and level of risk assessed.

Accessibility information
Smoking and vaping information
We know that quitting smoking reduces your chances of heart disease and lung cancer, as well as improving your sense of taste, making your skin look younger and reducing stress.
Please remember that smoking or vaping is not allowed anywhere on any NHFT sites for outpatients, visitors or staff.
For adult and older adult inpatients only, smoking or vaping is permitted in specially designated areas (ward gardens). If you are an inpatient, please speak to your ward matron about smoking and vaping options. Tobacco dependency advisors are available to support you to quit smoking or vaping, and we also offer nicotine replacement therapy.
All other service users, visitors and staff must go offsite if they wish to smoke or vape.
