Team spirit helps physiotherapy service get waiting lists moving

Colleagues are teaming up to deliver lasting service improvements for people experiencing muscle, joint and bone problems in Northamptonshire - getting waits for treatment moving in the right direction.
Members of the musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapy service have been working hard over the last two years on a variety of projects aimed at providing a better experience for service users.
This all started back in June 2023 with a comprehensive review of the service, made possible by detailed engagement with every member of its 80-strong workforce.
Those colleagues have since led the way in delivering wide-ranging improvements, which are now bearing fruit - with average waits for routine treatment cut almost in half and numbers of people waiting reduced by more than 75%.
Among the improvements made so far are the introduction of more regular all-team training sessions, and changes to the way appointments are organised so therapists can spend more time with each patient to focus on providing high-quality care and giving them the support they need.
Samantha Nicolle, MSK Physiotherapy Service Manager, said: "I've witnessed some amazing transformation led by the team and it's been really rewarding to be a part of that. They have shown hard work, dedication and commitment beyond belief and I'm incredibly proud to work with each and every one of them. What stands out the most is their honest and open approach to reducing our waiting list together, which has strengthened the team significantly."
Claire Bailey, Head of Specialist Community Services, added: "I'm super proud of what has been achieved and it's fantastic to work in a team that is empowered to speak up. We know we've still got lots to do but I think we'll go far with the kind of attitude and approach the team have shown."
