Ranjit Singh is a public governor for NHFT, representing Wellingborough and East Northamptonshire. He also leads the Council's Membership, Engagement and Representation Group. We caught up with Ranjit to find out what being a governor means to him - and to find out about the Council of Governors' priorities for the year ahead.

Tell us about yourself

I live with my family in Rushden. I am a governor for NHFT, I am a local school governor and also a trustee for Northamptonshire Mind. I work in the fashion industry, I am a Sikh, and I understand the importance of volunteering within the community.

What inspired you to become an NHFT governor?

I initially became a member of NHFT, and becoming a governor enabled me to utilise my skills and experience to join the conversation to improve services for the community. The governing body is a mix of the local community and as an elected governor I am proud to be a contributing voice within it.

What are this year's Council of Governors' priorities?

Our priorities are to increase representation in our membership so it's more reflective of Northamptonshire's population. We want to do that by improving diversity, involving more children and young people, and including more men of all ages. Our members are the voice of our communities, so representation is really important.

How can people make a difference as an NHFT member?

Being a member is free, and is a vital in shaping NHFT's future direction, plans and service levels.

How do I become an NHFT member?

It's really easy to become an NHFT member and anyone aged 12 and over can join if they live in Northamptonshire, use our services or care for someone who does. Just head to our website at nhft.nhs.uk/membership to find out more and apply using our quick and simple online form.

New NHFT governors welcomed after elections

NHFT is pleased to confirm the appointment of two new Public Governors following its annual elections, which concluded in April.

Mabel Blades has been elected to the Wellingborough and East Northamptonshire seat while Summer Maradzika will represent Daventry and South Northamptonshire.

The pair are joined on the NHFT Council of Governors by Chris Duff, Chief Executive of Age UK Northamptonshire, who has taken over the Partner Governor role from former Age UK representative Sue Watts. We thank Sue for her valuable contributions over the years.

NHFT Governors represent the interests of their communities and the wider public. By using their networks and local ties, they help the Trust learn, develop, grow and make a difference together.
