NHFT Consultant shares advice for positive mental health for English and Non-English speakers

NHFT’s Consultant Psychiatrist, Shahid Latif, has worked with the Royal College of Psychiatrists to produce a video to share advice on maintaining good mental health and wellbeing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr Latif’s video is in English, but the wider group – including a number of medics from our Buddy Trust, Leicestershire Partnership Trust – have also recorded the video in a number of languages including Punjabi, Bengali, Urdu, Cantonese, Greek and many others.

The short messages advise members of the public/patients to take daily, socially-distanced exercise, to maintain social contact with families and friends, to consider taking up new hobbies, and to try deep breathing or muscle-relaxing techniques to reduce stress.  Dr Latif says, “These tips may sound basic, but they can be very helpful and powerful for a lot of people”.
