PharmacyThe NHFT Pharmacy service supports staff, service users and carers to safely manage medicine. We also help to improve the use of medicines by providing a high value service.
We do this by providing:
- Accurate and independent data about medicines to other healthcare colleagues, service users and carers
- Clinical and dispensing activities to manage medicines for service users in inpatient and community teams
- Support to ensure that medicines management assets are used cost effectively within NHFT.

Where are courses held?
A formulary is a preferred list of medicines for use within the organisation. If the patient meets the clinical criteria set out in the guidance, all medicines recommended by a National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) technology appraisal are available at the Trust as a treatment option for the disease or condition covered. Treatments can proceed if the clinician concludes that the drug recommended by the NICE technology is the most appropriate one to use. This always follows a discussion of all available treatments, and only if the patient agrees.
There is a specific list of preferred choices for medicines used by the Trust’s mental health and HIV teams. See below:

The Choice and Medication website offers people information about medications used in the mental health setting to help people make informed decisions about medication. Use the site yourself, together with your family or someone you care for, or with your doctor, nurse or pharmacist.
