Mental Health Support TeamsThe Circle of Security parenting programme is designed to help parents understand their child's emotions and:
- Improve their ability to understand their infant's non-verbal communication and needs
- Improve the development of their child's self-esteem
- Help parents improve their confidence
- Increase their child's feeling of attachment security
- Help those who may be experiencing difficulties in their relationship with their infant
The free programme offers parents two individual meetings and eight to ten support sessions (with five to ten people in the session). Circle of Security is based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened.
The interactive sessions include PowerPoint teaching, video material, exercises and discussions. Parents do not have to discuss their personal circumstances with other group members, they can discuss whatever they are comfortable to share. Couples are welcome to attend together.
Depending on demand and accessibility, group sessions will be held either in person or online or a mixture of the two, we will work with parents to identify what would work best. Creche facilities will be available for all in-person sessions. Locations for in-person groups will be confirmed to you in advance if you are accepted on to the programme.
