“Reaching out for mental health support has changed my life”

Time to talk day 2021 with purple and yellow speech bubbles

Terry is a service user who has received support from Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) and Mind’s Mental Health Navigators at the Crisis Cafes and Mental Health Number.

Terry has shared his experiences with mental health difficulties in the hope to breakdown barriers and encourage others to reach out for support if they need to. Here is his story:

Terry continues to attend the cafes and spends time speaking to other service users about their experiences. He is passionate about supporting people and is looking to progress a career in mental health. Terry also works with Ryan to discuss mental health on Lions Radio, they run support sessions such as dances held online and through the radio he hopes to break down barriers about discussing mental health.

Anne Rackham, Director of Mental Health at NHFT, said: “We are passionate about working with children, young people and adults across Northamptonshire to provide personalised care that is tailored to meet the needs of our service users.

“It is truly inspiring to hear about Terry’s journey and how he is breaking down barriers and starting conversations about mental health through his own experiences. I would encourage anyone who is experiencing mental health issues to reach out for support.”

NHFT offers mental health support for children, young people and adults across Northamptonshire, including talking therapies through Changing Minds IAPT and the 24 hour mental health number.

Thank you to Terry for sharing his experiences.
